I’m a mixed media artist, creating artwork through graphic design, photo manipulation, video, animation, sound, drawing, sculpture and painting. These techniques are not exclusive to themselves, and it is often the concept of the artwork that guides the medium, which means I often blur the lines between the physical and the digital, weaving techniques together.
Through my artwork, I explore themes of my own, very personal experience of cultural duality. Being of mixed Turkish and Australian heritage is interesting, familiar and fragmented.
I utilise humour to explore the tragedy of capitalism and the impressions consumer culture has left on me, and I like to weaponize our collective consumerism to deflect the male gaze as I navigate the world as a woman.
I make artwork to be aesthetically pleasing or familiar enough to invite you in, but also askew enough to encourage your inquisitiveness. I like being unsure of where the lines between reality and fantasy exist.
